What’s worse, it’s reported on HealthDay News that taking antibiotics for an extended period in early to middle adulthood might increase your risk for precancerous growths in your colon. This study is found by researchers at Harvard Medical School.

Researchers found that women who took antibiotics for two weeks or more in their 20s through their 50s were more likely to have colon lesions in their 60s than women who didn't take the drugs for an extended period. These lesions will lead to colon cancer if left unresolved. Though the study was limited to women, the link likely also holds true for men, researcher said.
 
Though antibiotics help to kill harmful bacteria, they also disrupt the diversity and number of bacteria in the gut and reduce resistance to toxic bacteria, which will put you in high risk of developing precancerous growths.
 
This study is not a proof that antibiotics can definitely lead to precancerous colon growths, but it’s one of the factors that can induce the risk. It’s a alert for reducing the use of antibiotics to prevent the health risks.
