What Is Gonorrhoea?

Gonorrhoea is a pyogenic infection of urogenital system that cause by neisseria gonorrhoea. It’s one of the most common STDs. The clinical manifestations of this disease depend on several factors, including the severity of the infection, the body’s sensitivity, bacterial virulence, infected portion, and the duration of infection. It also has relation with health condition, sexual life and alcohol intake.

Symptoms of gonorrhoea: 
 
Gonorrhoea in men:  
For acute gonorrhoea, the symptoms won’t be noticeable for 1 to 14 days. Male patients will have acute urethritis symptoms, such as redness, itching and stabbing pain in urethra, discharge from the penis with urinary discomfort. After about 2 days,  the discharge will be sticky, the redness will spread to the whole penis and part of the urinary tract, which will lead to urinary frequency and urgency, pain when urinating, difficulty urinating, and painful erection at night. Patients will also suffer from enlarged and painful inguinal lymph nodes. About 50%~70% patients will have symptoms of frequent and urgent urination, acute urinary retention. The systemic symptoms usually are milder, only a few of patients can have high fever, general malaise and inappetence, etc.
 
If the treatment is not complete for acute gonorrhoea, the neisseria gonorrhoea will hide in the urethra, which will lead to chronic. Generally, the chronic infection will last for more than 2 months. It will cause a series of unbearable symptoms, including itching urethra, burning pain when urinating, weak urine flow and dripping. Most of patients will find discharge in the urethra.      
 
Gonorrhoea in women:
Cervix is the main organ that infected by neisseria gonorrhoea in women. Some of female patients have no signs of gonorrhoea. And other patients will have noticeable symptoms such as increased leukorrhagia, itching and burning in vulva, cervical congestion and tenderness, lower abdominal pain, back pain, discharge from the vagina, mild urinary frequency and urgency, painful and burning urination. Gonococcus vaginitis is rare, patients usually have mild symptoms, including lower back pain, lower abdominal pain, increased leucorrhea, and hypermenorrhea, etc.     
 
Secondary infections of gonorrhoea:  
 
Complications of gonorrhoea in men:  
1.Prostatitis: Men with gonorrhoea will induce prostatitis. Acute prostatitis symptoms include fever, chills, perineal pain, difficulty urinating, swelling and tenderness in prostate. The symptoms of chronic prostatitis are mild, most of patients will have discharge in urethra only in the morning.    
 
2.Epididymitis and seminal vesiculitis: Enlarged epididymis, pain in epididymis,  testicular tenderness and swelling. Patients with seminal vesiculitis will suffer from frequent and urgent urination, pain when urinating, blood in urine and semen, etc. 
 
3.Cowperitis: It occurs in perineum or the areas next to it, which will cause nodules and result in difficulty urinating.  
 
4.Urethrostenosis: The recurrent gonorrhoea will lead to urethrostenosis. It may also cause vas deferens stenosis or obstruction and lead to dysuresia. Severe patients will have uroschesis. This condition can induce other secondary diseases like seminal vesicle cyst and sterility.   
 
Complications of gonorrhoea in women:  
Main complications of gonorrhoea in women include acute salpingitis, endometritis, secondary oviduct ovarian abscess and pelvic abscess, peritonitis, etc. The complications usually occur after menstruation, female patients will have symptoms of high fever, chills, headache, nausea, vomiting, lower abdominal pain, purulent leucorrhea increasing, bilateral annex thickening and tenderness.  
 
Treatment of gonorrhoea:
 
Gonorrhoea is commonly treated with antibiotic therapy. However, as this STD is fast becoming resistant to its long-trusted, recommended antibiotics, there is no known antibiotics can be used to cure this disease. Patients can only take some medications to relieve and lessen the symptoms. As the development of TCM, herbal medicine is proven to be effective on curing gonorrhoea. Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill has already cured many male sufferers with this STD, the herbs in the pill can provide good effect to eradicate the bacteria without drug resistance. Prevention of gonorrhoea:
 
1. Use condoms correctly every time you have sex.
2. Limit the number of sex partners, and do not go back and forth between partners.
3.Don’t have sex with someone who has any unusual symptoms.
4. Consider regular gonorrhea screening annually.
