The prostate is a male gland which has the size of a walnut and it is localized in the surrounding area of the urethra, the path the urine follows from the bladder to the penis, and also it is found at the base of the bladder between the rectum and pubic bone.
It has an important role because it is responsible of the secretion of circa 25 per cent of the total seminal fluid that it is found in combination with the sperm during the ejaculation and it has also the role of a lubricant which can prevent the affections of the urethra can help to protect the sperm. A healthy prostate means that the prostate works in normal way and it is not affected by the usual affections that can occur to this organ.
The most common affections linked to the prostate are: prostate enlargement, prostatitis and prostate cancer. The prostate enlargement usually occur after the age of 50 because the prostate has two periods of growth: one is in the puberty time and the other one appears around the age of 25 and later it can prove to be benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The most frequent symptoms are: weaker flow of the urine and it takes a longer time to do it, there appears a period between the moment when the man goes to the toilet and the moment when it actually flows, men can experience dribbling, they feel the need of going to urine more often than usual, they can not held so when they need to urine they have to go immediately and they might experience a moment when they do not have the feeling that the bladder is empty. Prostatitis means the fact the prostate experiences an inflammation of the gland that has a serious cause which can be an infection like a bacteria but it can spread to other parts of the body.
The general symptoms of the acute prostatitis are the fever and also pains in the perineal pain, chills, they experience pain when they urine or ejaculate, they feel the need for urine more often than usual, they can even retain urine or they can experience blood in the urine and also there can appear some pains in the testicles. There is also the chronic prostatitis but it has other types of symptoms like: urinary tract infections, pains in the back, pelvic area, testicles or perineal area, they experience pain when the urine or ejaculate and they can also have blood in the urine or an abnormal urine color.
Prostate cancer is usually developed bny the men of over 60 or even 65 years old. One of the main causes that can lead to such affections are: a diet with many fats and it has been proven that the diets which are poor in fat and rich in vegetables may reduce the risks of developing this cancer.
