Detailed Introduction of Chronic Epididymitis

Chronic epididymitis is the chronic inflammation of epididymis. Commonly, it’s caused by recurrent acute epididymitis. It also can be caused by long-term and slight infection. Some cases showed that it’s a secondary disease of chronic prostatitis. The pathogenic bacteria and the route of infection are similar to acute epididymitis. 

 

Causes of chronic epididymitis

 

Generally speaking, the pathogenic bacteria invade the epididymis by retrograding into the deferent duct. The occurrence of the disease is a chronic course with the enlarged epididymis, nodules and tenderness. Because of the anatomical features of epididymis, once infected, it’s easy to form the swelling, tissue organization, and even nodules.

The diagnosis of chronic epididymitis depends on the pathological examination. It can be confused with epididymal tuberculosis. Commonly, the tuberculous epididymitis mostly occurs at the tail of the epididymis. The epididymis will enlarge irregularly and adhere to the skin. And the seminiferous duct will have a beaded change. It may be accompanied by the prostate gland and seminal vesicle tuberculosis  

 

Treatments of chronic epididymitis  　　

1.Antibiotics treatment. It’s the most common method on curing chronic epididymitis. After taking the bacteria culture and drug sensitive test, doctors will choose the  proper antibiotics for patients. However, not all patients can be cured efficiently by this method.
