Can Prostate Infection Raise PSA Levels?

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protease secreted by prostate epithelial cells, an essential indicator for the differential diagnosis of prostate cancer in clinical practice. And the increase of prostate-specific antigen indicates that it may be prostate cancer or prostatitis. When there is prostate inflammation, the prostate-specific antigen will be released into the blood, and the PSA will be significantly higher than normal. Therefore, when it is prostatitis, PSA will increase.

However, the increase in PSA is not unique to prostate cancer. The increase in PSA is related to various factors such as prostate inflammation, prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and prostate massage.

In addition, elevated PSA is also associated with patient age and prostate volume. Prostatitis patients do not need to be too nervous when PSA rises. First, the PSA rise caused by prostatitis differs from that caused by prostate cancer.

Secondly, after a certain period of treatment in patients with prostatitis, the PSA level will gradually return to normal. However, if the patient finds that the PSA is elevated during the physical examination, he should go to the hospital in time to find out what causes the PSA elevation.

Multiple factors can lead to elevated PSA, such as urinary tract infections, prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, catheterization, ejaculation, prostate massage, cystoscopy, etc. PSA is a prostate-specific antigen, an enzyme produced by the prostate, which is specific to prostate tissue and is a screening indicator for prostate cancer. Both normal prostate cells and cancerous prostate epithelial cells can synthesize PSA. Under normal circumstances, PSA is mainly produced by prostate epithelial cells, secreted into prostatic fluid or semen, and low blood levels.

The normal value of prostate PSA is less than 4ng/L, which is a tumor indicator of prostate cancer. If this indicator is elevated, the following conditions should be considered:
Iatrogenic operation: In the past week, operations such as catheterization, cystoscopy, urethroscope, or digital anal examination will lead to an increase in PSA level, and it is necessary to stop these operations for a week before re-examination.

Infection: If the patient has recently had prostatitis, the PSA level may increase, and it is necessary to wait for the inflammation to heal before re-examination.

Drugs: Drugs that interfere with PSA test results, such as oral finasteride, or androgen-suppressing drugs, such as bicalutamide, can cause PSA levels to drop. Therefore, before the examination, the patient should be asked in detail whether there is any relevant medical history or medication history.

For elevated PSA, we should pay attention to whether there is a low echo in the peripheral zone before doing a prostate color Doppler ultrasound. Do prostate magnetic resonance examination to see if there is low signal, and at the same time, check the prostate to see if there is induration of the prostate. If there are these manifestations, the possibility of prostate cancer should be considered, and a biopsy of prostate cancer should be done to confirm the diagnosis. In this way, early detection can be achieved, and the survival time of patients can be effectively prolonged.

When the prostate has lesions, its function is changed, or it is stimulated to some extent, and a large amount of PSA can be secreted into the blood. Therefore, PSA can be checked by blood drawing, and its indicators can directly feedback the state of the prostate. PSA is a highly accurate and stable examination index in the census of male prostate diseases, which is widely used.

Prostatitis can lead to an increase in PSA. Patients can be clinically diagnosed by prostate-specific antigen examination, routine prostatic fluid, bacterial culture of prostatic fluid, and drug sensitivity. Patients should pay attention to the following points.

First, drink more water, urinate frequently, do not eat peppers, onions, and garlic cloves, and eat more seafood, beef, mutton, fruits and vegetables.

Second, Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill is a good choice for patients with prostatitis who have been diagnosed. Its broad-spectrum antibacterial properties can kill all kinds of bacteria, viruses, and pathogens such as mycoplasma and chlamydia that cause male urogenital diseases. It can eliminate pain and other symptoms and cure prostatitis.
