Is a Sitz Bath Recommended for Chronic UTI?

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection involving the kidneys, ureters, bladder, or urethra. These are the structures that urine passes through before being eliminated from the body. 
According to statistics, urinary tract infections account for more than 7 million people to medical offices and hospitals each year in the Unite States. However, the infections are much more common in girls and women than in boys and men younger than 50 years of age.

About 40% of women and 12% of men have a urinary tract infection at some time in their life. Therefore, urinary tract infection is second only to respiratory infection as the most common type of infection.

In addition, the chronic UTI is a common disorder with a high recurrence rate in women. Therefore, a good protocol of treatment for UTI is very important and necessary.
Currently, the treatment for a urinary tract infection is antibiotics, but the type of antibiotic and duration of treatment depend on the circumstances. Although lots of bacteria can be killed by antibiotics, the drug resistance of antibiotics is the general problem in the therapeutic process.

Traditional Chinese Medicine pay attention to the regulation of Qi and blood. Sitz bath, same principle as hot compress around the bladder, is a good method to treat chronic UTI. Most of Chinese medicine doctors thought that the way of sitz bath could promote the blood circulation of the urinary tract. It relive the patient’s pain effectively.
