What Are The Quality Criteria For Sperm?

What are the quality criteria for sperm? Many men don't know exactly what sperm quality standards are. Routine semen analysis can mainly make you understand the semen volume, sperm density and total sperm, sperm agglutination, sperm motility, sperm morphology, semen liquefaction, etc.

Criteria for measuring sperm quality include the following:

1. Semen volume

The normal semen volume is equal to or beyond 2ml. When it is over 7ml, sperm density is reduced, and it may be easy to flow out of the vagina, so that the total number of sperm gets decreased. When it is less than 2ml, the contact area between semen and a woman's reproductive tract is small, or the viscosity is not conducive to the passage of sperm into a woman's cervix, leading to infertility.

2. Color

It is usually grayish white or yellowish. The milky white or yellow-green color indicates inflammation of the reproductive tract or adnexal gonads. Microscopically, the pink and red blood cells are haemorrhagic semen, commonly seen in paragonads, posterior urethral inflammation, and even in tuberculosis or tumors.

3. pH value

The normal pH of semen is 7.2 to 7.8. Fewer than 72% of cases are found with seminal vesicle obstruction or urine contamination. More than 78% of cases are found with seminal vesiculitis or aging of the specimen.

4. liquidation duration

Normal semen after ejaculation becomes jelly due to the seminal vesicle coagulase. It becomes liquid under the action of prostate liquefaction enzyme, and the duration is about 15min to 30min. It is not normal for semen to remain liquefied 30 minutes after ejaculation.

5. Viscosity

The glass rod touches the liquid semen and gently lifts it to form a semen membrane. Commonly, that the length is about 2cm indicates the viscosity is normal.

6. Number of sperm

It generally represents the number of sperm per milliliter of semen. Normal count ≥20×106 / ml. When it is less than this value of sperm, due to a variety of reasons for spermatogenic dysfunction, so sperm are much less likely to enter the uterus and fallopian tubes, leading to infertility and low reproductive function.

7. Sperm morphology

When over 50% of sperm morphology is abnormal, it will lead to male infertility.

8. Positive strength of sperm

It means the sperm can move fast forward in a straight line. When this kind of sperm is no more than 50%, it will lead to male infertility.

9. White blood cell in semen

The white blood cells in normal semen are 1×106ml in semen. The phenomenon of increased white blood cells, aka leukocytosis, is an infection of the reproductive tract or adnexal gonads.

10. Survival rate of sperm

It usually refers to the survival rate of sperm an hour after ejaculation. Normally, it is over 50% so that the sperm can meet with the egg. The common causes of reduced sperm motility and survival range over parasadgonadal inflammation of sperm, varicoceles, ciliated dull syndrome due to chronic respiratory infections, anti-sperm antibodies, or improper preservation of semen specimens.

As a result, male health care is very necessary. Men should avoid drinking alcohol, eating spicy food, and smoking. They should also promote a healthy sex life and avoid infections due to unhealthy personal hygiene. In clinical practice, prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis are diseases that can be caused by bacterial infection and can bring damage to the sperm. In this regard, you can take the herbal medicine Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill to get a cure.
