Testicular Color Doppler Ultrasound: What Can It Detect?

The testis is one of men's important reproductive organs. Its main function is to produce and secrete sperm and androgen testosterone, maintain normal sexual and reproductive function, and, clinically, be prone to orchitis, testicular tumors, testicular cancer, testicular hydrocele, etc. These diseases can be diagnosed by color Doppler ultrasound.

TesticularColorDopplerUltrasound

Testicular color Doppler ultrasound is a non-invasive examination that is not harmful to the body and can be performed repeatedly. However, for patients with severe testicular tumors, this examination is generally not recommended.

If the patient is diagnosed with testicular tumors, it is recommended that the patient need to be treated by surgery, such as partial orchiectomy, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, etc. In the color Doppler ultrasound examination, patients generally need to take off their coats to show the specific situation of the testis better.

Testicular color Doppler ultrasound mainly checks the shape and blood flow of the testis. By doing it, we can also see whether there are space-occupying lesions in the testis, such as lymphoma and cysts and nodules.

1. The size of the testicle

Testicular color Doppler ultrasound can detect the size of the testis through the physical characteristics of ultrasound. If the testicular volume is small, it may be caused by testicular dysplasia, testicular atrophy and other reasons. If the testicular volume is large, it may be caused by orchitis, epididymitis, testicular hydrocele, and other reasons.

2. Blood supply situation

Testicular color Doppler ultrasound can detect the blood supply of the testis through the physical characteristics of ultrasound. If the blood supply of the testis is poor, it may be caused by orchitis, epididymitis, testicular torsion, and other reasons.

3. Is there inflammation in the testis

Orchitis is a testicular inflammatory disease caused by the invasion of bacteria or viruses. Through testicular color Doppler ultrasound examination, we can observe whether there is an abnormal blood flow signal in the testis to judge the severity of orchitis.

Color Doppler ultrasound examination of the testis can generally find out whether there are testicular tumors, testicular cysts, varicocele, and other diseases.

1. Testicular tumors

It is a common malignant tumor in andrology. The pathogenesis, which may be related to genetic factors, is unclear. It occurs in young adults. Most patients have no subjective symptoms. As the disease progresses, local enlargement will be accompanied by heavy feelings and dull pain.

It can be detected by testicular color Doppler ultrasound, and there will be a phenomenon of clear boundary and abundant peripheral blood flow signals. After diagnosis, radical resection and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection should be performed as soon as possible.

2. Testicular cyst

Through color Doppler ultrasound examination, it can be observed whether there is a liquid dark area in the testis. If a liquid dark area is found, it is usually suggested that there may be testicular cysts, and there are generally no obvious symptoms.

A few patients may feel vaginal discomfort or pain. When the epididymal cyst is large, it may cause pain during intercourse. At this time, through testicular color Doppler ultrasound examination, low echo will be found in the epididymis, and surgical resection can be performed after diagnosis.

3. Varicocele

Through color Doppler ultrasound examination, we can see whether there is a varicose vein in the spermatic cord. If varicose veins are found and the degree of varicose veins is relatively light, it may indicate varicocele.

In addition to the above situation, if the testicular ultrasound examination showed that the testicular volume was reduced and the texture was hardened, it may also be caused by acute epididymitis, chronic epididymitis and other reasons. It is recommended to go to the hospital in time and improve the relevant examination to clarify the specific cause.

If acute epididymitis or orchitis causes swelling and pain in the testis, it is also necessary to go to the hospital for testicular color Doppler ultrasound examination. During the examination, you need to relax your mind, keep the testis clean and hygienic, and try not to do strenuous exercise. Otherwise, it will affect the examination results, resulting in inaccurate examination results.
